Natalya Leahy is the president of Seabourn, the ultra-luxury cruise line, based in Seattle. What most people think of cruises they think of floating cities catering to thousands of people, but Seabourn is bringing all new levels of luxury to the seas on intimate ships with a private yacht-like atmosphere masterfully designed by iconic hospitality atelier Tihany Design. Natalya tells us how it all comes together.

after day after day after day, 0:00:41.378 --> 0:00:42.280 but I feel like every once 0:00:42.320 --> 0:00:44.000 in a while we get to dip 0:00:44.140 --> 0:00:46.982 our foot in the water of cruising, right? 0:00:47.582 --> 0:00:47.722 Yeah, 0:00:47.762 --> 0:00:48.764 you know what I think would be a good 0:00:48.804 --> 0:00:50.707 idea is to take a hotel, 0:00:50.726 --> 0:00:54.490 put it in the sea, get great restaurants, 0:00:54.511 --> 0:00:55.332 great entertainment, 0:00:55.411 --> 0:00:56.652 and just float it across 0:00:56.694 --> 0:00:58.115 the ocean and come up with 0:00:58.155 --> 0:00:59.496 something like a cruise 0:00:59.517 --> 0:01:00.177 ship or something. 0:01:01.771 --> 0:01:02.813 think you might be on to 0:01:02.853 --> 0:01:03.874 something but if it these big giant 0:01:08.417 --> 0:01:09.117 ships that keep getting 0:01:09.158 --> 0:01:09.957 bigger and bigger and 0:01:09.977 --> 0:01:11.299 bigger but I'm at the point 0:01:11.319 --> been, you know, 0:02:50.501 --> 0:02:51.921 not too far back where you 0:02:52.002 --> 0:02:53.103 knew you wanted to do this 0:02:53.143 --> 0:02:53.823 for the rest of your life, 0:02:53.842 --> 0:02:55.844 that you wanted to be in 0:02:55.884 --> 0:02:57.025 this position and do what 0:02:57.064 --> 0:02:58.086 you're doing for a living. 0:02:58.887 --> 0:02:59.447 When was that? 0:02:59.486 --> 0:03:00.407 Was that when you were five 0:03:00.427 --> 0:03:01.348 years old or was that when 0:03:01.367 --> 0:03:02.389 you were 30 years old? 0:03:02.489 --> 0:03:03.008 What was that? 0:03:04.711 --> 0:03:05.290 Oh, wow. 0:03:05.350 --> 0:03:06.831 Well, I have many moments. 0:03:06.951 --> 0:03:09.734 I will share my recent moment, you know, 0:03:09.753 --> 0:03:09.794 uh, 0:03:10.794 --> 0:03:12.195 where I just knew I'm in the right 0:03:12.256 --> 0:03:14.197 place and I have best job in the world. 0:03:14.437 --> 0:03:15.318 I think, um, 0:03:16.013 --> 0:03:20.096 About six years ago, we started a dream. 0:03:20.195 --> 0:03:22.016 We had a dream of bringing 0:03:23.979 --> 0:03:26.800 very well-known seaborne luxury. 0:03:27.121 --> 0:03:28.342 We really call it ultra 0:03:28.382 --> 0:03:29.622 luxury where it's highly 0:03:29.703 --> 0:03:31.163 personalized service and 0:03:31.723 --> 0:03:33.466 really finest experiences 0:03:33.545 --> 0:03:35.567 in the world on board our ships. 0:03:36.087 --> 0:03:38.188 We had a dream to bring that 0:03:38.669 --> 0:03:40.691 into the world of exploration. 0:03:41.698 --> 0:03:43.840 And so we started this 0:03:43.900 --> 0:03:45.881 project that we called Project Venture. 0:03:47.542 --> 0:03:50.383 Few weeks before the end of the year, 0:03:50.403 --> 0:03:52.885 in I think early December, 0:03:52.906 --> 0:03:54.847 I was waking up one Friday 0:03:54.887 --> 0:03:57.549 morning and I'm running 0:03:57.609 --> 0:03:59.711 around getting my girls ready for school. 0:03:59.770 --> 0:04:01.171 And I see my phone is 0:04:01.312 --> 0:04:03.454 buzzing and it's Robin West, 0:04:03.734 --> 0:04:05.375 our expedition guide. 0:04:05.915 --> 0:04:07.896 leader calling from the ship. 0:04:08.437 --> 0:04:09.899 And for a second, I'm like, oh, 0:04:10.318 --> 0:04:11.379 why am I getting called 0:04:11.400 --> 0:04:12.759 from the ship at 7 a.m.? 0:04:13.381 --> 0:04:15.701 And so and I see the text from him. 0:04:15.741 --> 0:04:18.624 He's like, answer the phone. 0:04:18.824 --> 0:04:20.125 I answer the phone. 0:04:20.906 --> 0:04:22.427 And all of a sudden I'm on a 0:04:22.487 --> 0:04:25.908 video and I see this live 0:04:26.228 --> 0:04:30.211 moment where two of our expedition ships, 0:04:30.411 --> 0:04:32.913 Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit, 0:04:33.613 --> 0:04:35.134 met in Ushuaia. 0:04:36.072 --> 0:04:37.232 First time ever, 0:04:37.531 --> 0:04:39.072 and everyone is waving to 0:04:39.132 --> 0:04:41.853 me and I'm watching our 0:04:41.973 --> 0:04:43.814 guests literally cheering 0:04:43.874 --> 0:04:45.194 each other with glasses of 0:04:45.274 --> 0:04:47.694 champagne across from two 0:04:47.814 --> 0:04:50.694 ships with this amazing background. 0:04:50.834 --> 0:04:52.475 And I see the small faces of 0:04:53.016 --> 0:04:54.295 my shoreside leadership 0:04:54.315 --> 0:04:55.716 team all tearing up as 0:04:55.757 --> 0:04:57.716 they're watching this moment. 0:04:58.437 --> 0:04:59.538 And at that point, 0:05:00.257 --> 0:05:01.918 I was so proud because I 0:05:02.017 --> 0:05:05.718 felt our dream actually did come true. 0:05:06.322 --> 0:05:08.884 we are taking people to the 0:05:08.963 --> 0:05:12.425 places that were not 0:05:12.504 --> 0:05:14.545 available to most up until 0:05:14.605 --> 0:05:17.047 recently without compromises. 0:05:17.807 --> 0:05:19.607 And I did step back and I 0:05:19.646 --> 0:05:21.208 thought I do actually have 0:05:21.267 --> 0:05:23.009 the best job in the world 0:05:23.228 --> 0:05:24.509 because we truly are 0:05:24.788 --> 0:05:27.769 touching and transforming people's lives. 0:05:28.891 --> 0:05:29.511 Yeah. 0:05:29.651 --> 0:05:30.071 Andrey? 0:05:30.562 --> 0:05:31.684 That's a beautiful story. 0:05:31.903 --> 0:05:32.663 And, you know, 0:05:32.923 --> 0:05:34.944 it's a lifetime of work and teamwork, 0:05:34.985 --> 0:05:35.845 and it's not easy. 0:05:35.904 --> 0:05:37.665 And, you know, everything matters. 0:05:37.745 --> 0:05:38.687 And it's the nuances. 0:05:38.726 --> 0:05:40.367 When you get the nuance 0:05:40.427 --> 0:05:43.209 right and the small details 0:05:43.228 --> 0:05:44.309 that nobody knows is right, 0:05:44.689 --> 0:05:46.029 everything else takes care of itself. 0:05:47.771 --> 0:05:48.610 I agree. 0:05:48.630 --> 0:05:49.011 I agree. 0:05:49.050 --> 0:05:51.432 Well, a lot of people ask me, Anthony, 0:05:51.452 --> 0:05:52.632 as I took this job, 0:05:52.692 --> 0:05:55.053 what does ultra luxury mean to you? 0:05:55.173 --> 0:05:56.935 What's luxury means in general? 0:05:56.995 --> 0:05:57.454 It's, of course, 0:05:57.495 --> 0:05:58.875 very personal definitions. 0:05:59.636 --> 0:06:01.757 But it is in details, isn't it? 0:06:01.817 --> 0:06:02.817 We actually launched the 0:06:02.857 --> 0:06:03.798 program that's called 0:06:03.958 --> 0:06:05.497 Delight in the Details. 0:06:05.697 --> 0:06:07.899 And it's all about taking 0:06:07.959 --> 0:06:09.620 the little things that when 0:06:09.740 --> 0:06:13.221 you walk on board our ships, 0:06:13.360 --> 0:06:15.862 we greet you by name and we say, Anthony, 0:06:15.882 --> 0:06:18.262 welcome back to your home away from home. 0:06:18.884 --> 0:06:21.884 And you feel like everyone 0:06:21.985 --> 0:06:24.725 on the ship was waiting just for you. 0:06:25.600 --> 0:06:27.480 And the whole cruise is just 0:06:27.581 --> 0:06:30.141 for you and your family and your friends. 0:06:30.300 --> 0:06:32.502 And we know the coffee you 0:06:32.581 --> 0:06:33.742 order for breakfast, 0:06:34.343 --> 0:06:35.742 and we know the wines that 0:06:35.762 --> 0:06:37.403 you like to drink for dinner. 0:06:37.723 --> 0:06:40.264 And hopefully we can also 0:06:40.324 --> 0:06:41.904 find a way to surprise and 0:06:41.944 --> 0:06:43.064 delight you with something 0:06:43.266 --> 0:06:46.346 that you didn't even know you want. 0:06:46.526 --> 0:06:49.166 So that is all about details, isn't it? 0:06:50.088 --> 0:06:50.867 Yeah, absolutely. 0:06:51.656 --> 0:06:51.795 Yeah. 0:06:52.156 --> 0:06:53.276 So, Natalia, 0:06:53.297 --> 0:06:54.798 you've been in this position 0:06:54.838 --> 0:06:55.800 as president of Seabourn 0:06:55.839 --> 0:06:58.362 for just about a year now. 0:06:58.502 --> 0:07:00.043 So it's a good time to take a look. 0:07:00.083 --> 0:07:00.884 One of the things we like to 0:07:00.903 --> 0:07:01.884 do is show people that they 0:07:01.904 --> 0:07:04.146 can achieve and they could do anything, 0:07:04.247 --> 0:07:04.646 right? 0:07:04.668 --> 0:07:05.728 And becoming president of a 0:07:05.767 --> 0:07:07.170 cruise line is pretty amazing. 0:07:07.589 --> 0:07:08.531 What was that like making 0:07:08.550 --> 0:07:09.552 that transition from when 0:07:09.572 --> 0:07:11.173 you were COO in your former 0:07:11.213 --> 0:07:12.654 position to taking the 0:07:12.694 --> 0:07:15.776 reins as the leader leader of a new job? 0:07:15.836 --> 0:07:16.858 How'd that go and what was 0:07:16.937 --> 0:07:17.559 it like for you? 0:07:21.764 --> 0:07:23.745 Well, it's a fantastic question. 0:07:23.944 --> 0:07:25.886 I think I was a leader, leader before. 0:07:26.026 --> 0:07:27.346 Every one of our team 0:07:27.387 --> 0:07:29.088 members is actually leader, leader. 0:07:29.108 --> 0:07:30.749 Yeah, but you are the ultimate boss. 0:07:30.788 --> 0:07:31.809 That's what I mean. 0:07:31.889 --> 0:07:33.629 But I'm at the helm of 0:07:33.930 --> 0:07:35.110 Seabourn and I love that. 0:07:35.331 --> 0:07:36.771 I think the biggest, 0:07:37.572 --> 0:07:39.333 I had had the privilege of 0:07:39.372 --> 0:07:40.634 supporting Seabourn through 0:07:40.653 --> 0:07:42.053 my entire time as Cardinal 0:07:42.093 --> 0:07:43.834 Corporation and in a previous role, 0:07:43.875 --> 0:07:45.255 but not in this role. 0:07:45.990 --> 0:07:47.512 And I thought I know, 0:07:47.672 --> 0:07:49.172 and I always appreciate it 0:07:49.252 --> 0:07:50.632 and love Seabourn business. 0:07:51.213 --> 0:07:56.334 I think one of the biggest, you know, 0:07:56.435 --> 0:07:58.295 biggest internalization as 0:07:58.435 --> 0:08:01.057 I took this role for me was 0:08:01.297 --> 0:08:05.858 what an important role our team members, 0:08:05.978 --> 0:08:07.579 our crew members play in 0:08:07.639 --> 0:08:08.980 the experience of guests, 0:08:09.600 --> 0:08:12.562 because we are very proud of a fantastic, 0:08:12.742 --> 0:08:14.802 elegant looking ships and designs. 0:08:15.654 --> 0:08:18.038 And we are very proud of our 0:08:18.117 --> 0:08:20.240 culinary experiences at Rivals, 0:08:20.319 --> 0:08:21.661 best restaurants in the world. 0:08:21.781 --> 0:08:26.065 But when I asked every guest why Seabourn, 0:08:27.466 --> 0:08:29.288 they all talk about the 0:08:29.408 --> 0:08:32.011 connection with our crew members. 0:08:32.131 --> 0:08:34.615 We have over 4,000 crew members from 0:08:35.655 --> 0:08:37.177 94 countries in the world. 0:08:37.376 --> 0:08:38.658 And what I realized that 0:08:38.697 --> 0:08:40.999 what actually makes secret 0:08:41.078 --> 0:08:43.561 sauce for Seabourn experience. 0:08:43.681 --> 0:08:46.001 And that I think was a 0:08:46.042 --> 0:08:47.123 little bit of an eye 0:08:47.263 --> 0:08:48.344 opening for me because 0:08:48.384 --> 0:08:50.664 that's what really creates this brand. 0:08:50.904 --> 0:08:52.446 But every company talks 0:08:52.505 --> 0:08:53.486 about what you just said. 0:08:53.746 --> 0:08:54.748 Every company says it's 0:08:54.788 --> 0:08:55.649 about our crew members, 0:08:55.668 --> 0:08:56.450 it's about our employees, 0:08:56.470 --> 0:08:57.250 it's about our team. 0:08:57.671 --> 0:08:59.812 But very few are able to 0:08:59.852 --> 0:09:01.653 accomplish that on such a grand scale. 0:09:02.075 --> 0:09:02.315 You know, 0:09:02.335 --> 0:09:03.895 there's so many things to what you do. 0:09:04.336 --> 0:09:06.437 Service is number two compared to safety. 0:09:06.778 --> 0:09:07.740 So you have to deal with safety, 0:09:07.759 --> 0:09:08.500 you have to deal with service, 0:09:08.539 --> 0:09:09.620 you have to deal with elegance, 0:09:09.640 --> 0:09:11.121 you have to deal with all 0:09:11.162 --> 0:09:12.222 the things that you have to deal with, 0:09:12.484 --> 0:09:13.464 and you have to do it at sea. 0:09:13.884 --> 0:09:15.966 So why is your company able 0:09:16.006 --> 0:09:17.087 to do it where a lot of 0:09:17.727 --> 0:09:19.708 companies, whether at sea or not at sea, 0:09:20.249 --> 0:09:21.089 are unable to do? 0:09:21.208 --> 0:09:22.950 What do you do to tap into 0:09:23.009 --> 0:09:25.331 your employees that other 0:09:25.370 --> 0:09:26.152 people may not do? 0:09:27.491 --> 0:09:28.692 Well, first of all, 0:09:29.712 --> 0:09:31.474 we are very intentional, right? 0:09:31.514 --> 0:09:34.455 So it doesn't really happen by chance. 0:09:34.955 --> 0:09:37.515 It starts with our recruiting strategy. 0:09:38.056 --> 0:09:38.777 We really, 0:09:38.817 --> 0:09:40.777 really spend time recruiting people, 0:09:41.278 --> 0:09:43.418 not just with great 0:09:43.578 --> 0:09:44.719 technical skills and 0:09:44.778 --> 0:09:46.799 experiences in hospitality and 0:09:47.643 --> 0:09:48.903 luxury brand but we are 0:09:48.943 --> 0:09:49.864 recruiting people with 0:09:49.903 --> 0:09:51.644 certain personality profile 0:09:52.125 --> 0:09:53.326 because when I describe 0:09:53.385 --> 0:09:54.846 seaborne service it's a 0:09:54.966 --> 0:09:57.128 very engaging warm service 0:09:57.187 --> 0:09:59.369 and that's what makes us 0:09:59.928 --> 0:10:01.590 stand out that's where I 0:10:01.669 --> 0:10:03.811 guess say I feel like I am 0:10:03.910 --> 0:10:05.552 not just being delighted 0:10:05.672 --> 0:10:06.993 and spoiled I feel like I'm 0:10:07.092 --> 0:10:09.514 actually among friends and 0:10:09.573 --> 0:10:11.455 among family members and 0:10:11.495 --> 0:10:13.135 that requires incredible 0:10:13.196 --> 0:10:14.817 emotional intelligence so 0:10:15.037 --> 0:10:16.136 all of our team members 0:10:16.177 --> 0:10:17.298 from all over the world 0:10:17.990 --> 0:10:20.032 have this certain profile of 0:10:20.552 --> 0:10:22.013 emotional intelligence when 0:10:22.092 --> 0:10:23.693 they know how to connect, 0:10:24.215 --> 0:10:25.696 not just how to serve. 0:10:26.196 --> 0:10:27.197 It's very different. 0:10:28.038 --> 0:10:30.379 They don't know just only how to serve. 0:10:30.399 --> 0:10:31.760 They know how to connect 0:10:32.341 --> 0:10:34.123 with each individual on an 0:10:34.222 --> 0:10:36.364 individual basis, when to joke, 0:10:37.024 --> 0:10:38.426 when to surprise them, 0:10:39.105 --> 0:10:41.148 when to do something unexpected. 0:10:41.327 --> 0:10:43.509 And that takes a lot. 0:10:43.970 --> 0:10:44.951 On top of it, 0:10:45.450 --> 0:10:46.890 We don't only hire right 0:10:46.971 --> 0:10:48.513 people with right emotional 0:10:48.572 --> 0:10:49.693 intelligence profiles. 0:10:50.293 --> 0:10:51.875 We spend a lot of 0:10:52.436 --> 0:10:55.077 intentional time to train our people. 0:10:55.118 --> 0:10:56.698 We call it Seabourn Academy. 0:10:57.159 --> 0:10:58.341 So whenever our new team 0:10:58.400 --> 0:10:59.721 members join the team, 0:10:59.741 --> 0:11:01.182 they go through the training. 0:11:01.743 --> 0:11:02.943 And majority of this 0:11:03.024 --> 0:11:04.625 training time is devoted to 0:11:04.686 --> 0:11:06.006 really Seabourn culture. 0:11:06.620 --> 0:11:07.982 And that type of secret is 0:11:08.082 --> 0:11:09.384 also what makes us us. 0:11:10.205 --> 0:11:11.767 And then you continue that. 0:11:11.846 --> 0:11:13.148 And there is a lot of mentoring. 0:11:13.207 --> 0:11:14.269 And as a result of it, 0:11:14.308 --> 0:11:16.331 when I look at my senior leadership team, 0:11:16.432 --> 0:11:18.014 I have quite a few team 0:11:18.073 --> 0:11:19.315 members who started on 0:11:19.375 --> 0:11:22.018 board our ships from very 0:11:22.077 --> 0:11:23.278 entry-level positions. 0:11:23.339 --> 0:11:24.701 And now they're running the company. 0:11:26.890 --> 0:11:27.171 You know, 0:11:27.211 --> 0:11:28.711 you said two words are very important. 0:11:28.731 --> 0:11:29.513 I smiled when you said 0:11:29.552 --> 0:11:30.352 emotional intelligence 0:11:30.393 --> 0:11:33.456 because I'm actually, after this call, 0:11:33.515 --> 0:11:35.256 after our next two podcasts, 0:11:35.857 --> 0:11:37.099 I'm getting on and 0:11:37.178 --> 0:11:39.100 finishing up my program 0:11:39.821 --> 0:11:41.822 that I'm facilitating. 0:11:42.462 --> 0:11:44.985 It's about emotional intelligence. 0:11:45.445 --> 0:11:46.725 And so a matter of fact, 0:11:49.227 --> 0:11:50.369 the man who basically 0:11:50.389 --> 0:11:51.330 started talking about it, 0:11:53.239 --> 0:11:54.539 I just got his book. 0:11:55.500 --> 0:11:56.660 That's so funny that that's 0:11:56.701 --> 0:11:57.302 right next to you. 0:11:57.822 --> 0:11:59.984 Yeah, because I'm working on the program. 0:12:00.443 --> 0:12:01.784 And I think it's very – 0:12:01.784 --> 0:12:03.066 because some of us were 0:12:03.105 --> 0:12:04.748 just born with a lot more than others. 0:12:05.207 --> 0:12:06.129 I happen to be born with a 0:12:06.149 --> 0:12:07.229 lot more than some people, 0:12:07.249 --> 0:12:08.269 and I'm sure you are too. 0:12:09.410 --> 0:12:11.852 But really pulling that out 0:12:11.893 --> 0:12:13.114 of somebody and identifying 0:12:13.453 --> 0:12:14.254 that person may have the 0:12:14.294 --> 0:12:15.014 most experience and the 0:12:15.075 --> 0:12:15.936 most technical experience, 0:12:16.296 --> 0:12:17.317 but that person is going to 0:12:17.336 --> 0:12:18.197 make stuff happen and 0:12:18.217 --> 0:12:19.438 figure stuff out when 0:12:19.458 --> 0:12:20.480 you're sleeping in your bed 0:12:20.559 --> 0:12:21.841 comfortably on shore. 0:12:22.400 --> 0:12:23.221 They're going to figure it 0:12:23.361 --> 0:12:24.542 out and then solve the 0:12:24.562 --> 0:12:25.802 problem so you don't have 0:12:25.822 --> 0:12:27.183 to get woken up at 7 0:12:27.183 --> 0:12:27.864 o'clock in the morning. 0:12:28.563 --> 0:12:30.065 And you said another word 0:12:30.105 --> 0:12:32.245 that I find that most people don't say. 0:12:32.746 --> 0:12:33.586 When I asked that question, 0:12:33.606 --> 0:12:34.388 the first thing you said is 0:12:34.408 --> 0:12:35.687 you went to the ground. 0:12:38.480 --> 0:12:38.860 Oh, my God, 0:12:38.880 --> 0:12:39.801 the word just came out of my head. 0:12:39.941 --> 0:12:40.461 Intentional. 0:12:40.761 --> 0:12:42.082 You just said it was intentional. 0:12:42.842 --> 0:12:44.083 And everything you do is intentional. 0:12:44.124 --> 0:12:44.823 And I think that's the 0:12:44.844 --> 0:12:46.065 difference between such a 0:12:46.105 --> 0:12:47.966 great brand like yours and 0:12:48.005 --> 0:12:50.048 some other brands that 0:12:50.067 --> 0:12:51.308 aren't as intentional. 0:12:51.708 --> 0:12:52.688 And that word is probably 0:12:52.708 --> 0:12:53.769 the most critical word 0:12:54.370 --> 0:12:55.171 there is for business. 0:12:56.312 --> 0:12:58.052 Well, I think, Anthony, 0:12:58.072 --> 0:12:59.234 you said something that 0:12:59.313 --> 0:13:00.735 really resonates with me. 0:13:01.575 --> 0:13:03.937 It's the people are born with something. 0:13:03.996 --> 0:13:05.857 We're all born with our own light. 0:13:06.663 --> 0:13:08.725 But as a company, as a leader, 0:13:08.904 --> 0:13:10.745 our job is to bring that 0:13:10.884 --> 0:13:12.206 light out of each person 0:13:12.265 --> 0:13:13.125 and make it shine. 0:13:13.846 --> 0:13:17.626 And that takes intentionality, 0:13:17.667 --> 0:13:19.128 but it also takes right 0:13:19.288 --> 0:13:21.687 processes and programs in place. 0:13:22.268 --> 0:13:24.089 So it does start from recruiting, 0:13:24.149 --> 0:13:25.328 but then it starts with 0:13:25.788 --> 0:13:27.129 creating an atmosphere on 0:13:27.230 --> 0:13:29.210 board where people feel supported. 0:13:29.269 --> 0:13:31.150 They feel they can be themselves. 0:13:31.899 --> 0:13:33.740 It takes mentorship programs 0:13:33.821 --> 0:13:36.102 and not just ones that happen by chance, 0:13:36.182 --> 0:13:38.264 but actually organized and managed. 0:13:39.345 --> 0:13:41.125 It takes listening and learning. 0:13:41.446 --> 0:13:44.467 And I expect every one of my 0:13:44.548 --> 0:13:45.908 shore site executive team 0:13:45.969 --> 0:13:47.789 members to spend some time on board. 0:13:48.370 --> 0:13:49.870 And when we go on board, 0:13:49.910 --> 0:13:51.111 we don't just meet with the 0:13:51.172 --> 0:13:54.333 captain and executive leadership team. 0:13:54.374 --> 0:13:55.855 We really go and spend time 0:13:55.894 --> 0:13:57.375 in a laundry room and in 0:13:57.416 --> 0:13:59.496 the ancient room and listen 0:13:59.517 --> 0:14:00.238 to crew members. 0:14:00.317 --> 0:14:00.878 By the way, 0:14:01.311 --> 0:14:01.750 By the way, 0:14:01.811 --> 0:14:05.211 that's how we learn the most 0:14:05.351 --> 0:14:07.253 things that we do for our guests, 0:14:07.493 --> 0:14:09.354 because no one knows guests 0:14:10.114 --> 0:14:12.215 better than the person who 0:14:12.375 --> 0:14:14.436 is with them through the whole journey, 0:14:14.495 --> 0:14:16.255 serving them, listening to them, 0:14:16.775 --> 0:14:17.976 seeing their reactions. 0:14:18.493 --> 0:14:19.715 Funny you should mention that, Natalia. 0:14:19.835 --> 0:14:22.518 Our great guest yesterday, Chris Manley, 0:14:22.538 --> 0:14:23.639 he's president of a hotel 0:14:23.720 --> 0:14:24.541 management company and 0:14:24.620 --> 0:14:25.962 founder of that organization, 0:14:26.643 --> 0:14:27.664 talked about the same thing. 0:14:27.725 --> 0:14:29.626 The best ideas to improve 0:14:29.667 --> 0:14:30.889 their business comes from 0:14:30.908 --> 0:14:34.393 the ones that are in it every single day. 0:14:34.673 --> 0:14:35.514 But what I really think the 0:14:35.554 --> 0:14:37.015 defining difference for you, Natalia, 0:14:37.096 --> 0:14:37.356 is that 0:14:37.777 --> 0:14:38.577 getting people who are on 0:14:38.677 --> 0:14:39.839 land to go to sea and on 0:14:39.918 --> 0:14:41.159 sea and on land to really 0:14:41.240 --> 0:14:42.159 understand what the 0:14:42.220 --> 0:14:43.280 different dynamics are at 0:14:43.341 --> 0:14:45.282 play so they could probably 0:14:45.341 --> 0:14:46.123 increase their emotional 0:14:46.163 --> 0:14:47.224 intelligence to understand 0:14:47.264 --> 0:14:48.745 what those individuals are 0:14:48.804 --> 0:14:50.826 faced with every single day as well. 0:14:50.885 --> 0:14:52.947 So super clever on that. 0:14:54.208 --> 0:14:54.928 Absolutely. 0:14:54.948 --> 0:14:58.410 And continue, you know, listen, 0:14:58.431 --> 0:15:00.273 this is also about giving 0:15:00.352 --> 0:15:02.975 people development opportunities, right? 0:15:03.034 --> 0:15:03.414 People... 0:15:04.219 --> 0:15:06.222 want to grow and learn and 0:15:06.342 --> 0:15:07.764 shine when they know they 0:15:07.904 --> 0:15:09.347 actually can continue to 0:15:09.388 --> 0:15:10.990 grow and the company supports them. 0:15:11.049 --> 0:15:12.152 So again, 0:15:12.251 --> 0:15:14.174 it's about designing the 0:15:14.254 --> 0:15:15.496 development programs and 0:15:15.557 --> 0:15:16.980 career passing for people 0:15:17.019 --> 0:15:18.201 so they can become 0:15:18.729 --> 0:15:20.489 from a beverage runner to a 0:15:20.529 --> 0:15:21.649 senior vice president 0:15:21.750 --> 0:15:22.909 running the business. 0:15:23.269 --> 0:15:23.710 You know, 0:15:23.730 --> 0:15:24.951 we have a lot of kids in 0:15:24.990 --> 0:15:26.010 hospitality schools and 0:15:26.051 --> 0:15:28.412 younger people that listen to our show. 0:15:28.432 --> 0:15:29.111 So I'm going to ask you a 0:15:29.172 --> 0:15:30.152 question that maybe you can 0:15:30.211 --> 0:15:31.211 impart some wisdom. 0:15:31.893 --> 0:15:34.393 You know, we talk about service, 0:15:34.413 --> 0:15:35.553 we talk about intentionality, 0:15:35.594 --> 0:15:37.614 we talk about emotional intelligence, 0:15:38.094 --> 0:15:38.975 but in your role, 0:15:39.154 --> 0:15:39.754 you have a lot of 0:15:39.774 --> 0:15:41.575 responsibilities for other 0:15:41.674 --> 0:15:44.056 things like profit and loss statements, 0:15:44.556 --> 0:15:46.937 like cashflow, like safety. 0:15:47.596 --> 0:15:48.498 So how do you keep the 0:15:48.618 --> 0:15:51.139 pressure of a job like that? 0:15:51.538 --> 0:15:52.480 And I'd imagine there's a 0:15:52.519 --> 0:15:53.679 lot of pressure in that job 0:15:54.321 --> 0:15:56.101 with the intentionality of 0:15:56.201 --> 0:15:57.743 what's going on on ship or 0:15:57.763 --> 0:15:58.403 on directness of what's 0:15:58.442 --> 0:16:00.163 going on ship with that lightness. 0:16:00.303 --> 0:16:02.125 And because I would imagine you always, 0:16:02.725 --> 0:16:04.306 you know, when you're around your team, 0:16:04.427 --> 0:16:04.767 you're 0:16:05.927 --> 0:16:06.628 you are who you are. 0:16:06.988 --> 0:16:08.690 So how do you, 0:16:09.009 --> 0:16:10.451 and I don't like to use the word secret, 0:16:10.471 --> 0:16:12.011 but what are your methods 0:16:12.111 --> 0:16:14.514 for handling not only the 0:16:14.594 --> 0:16:15.575 kind of nuts and bolts and 0:16:15.615 --> 0:16:17.155 stress of kind of your position, 0:16:17.495 --> 0:16:18.636 but also the fun stuff 0:16:18.756 --> 0:16:20.518 where you get to be with your team? 0:16:21.818 --> 0:16:25.341 Well, that's a very big loaded question, 0:16:25.442 --> 0:16:25.942 Anthony. 0:16:26.202 --> 0:16:26.562 I will. 0:16:26.923 --> 0:16:27.964 So first of all, 0:16:28.484 --> 0:16:30.686 if I had to boil it down to one thing, 0:16:30.846 --> 0:16:32.246 it always takes many things, 0:16:32.366 --> 0:16:33.067 but one thing, 0:16:33.596 --> 0:16:34.956 most important thing is 0:16:35.037 --> 0:16:36.356 surround yourself with 0:16:36.576 --> 0:16:39.038 right people who you can 0:16:39.139 --> 0:16:41.879 trust and then actually 0:16:41.960 --> 0:16:44.380 empower them to do their 0:16:44.400 --> 0:16:48.043 job um so that's I think is 0:16:48.123 --> 0:16:49.403 what and I did spend some 0:16:49.462 --> 0:16:51.364 time thinking through what 0:16:51.443 --> 0:16:52.764 my team will be structured 0:16:52.825 --> 0:16:54.566 like and how and I think 0:16:54.586 --> 0:16:55.865 that's and it's every 0:16:55.885 --> 0:16:57.346 evolving process right we 0:16:57.386 --> 0:16:58.846 all continue to evolve and 0:16:58.866 --> 0:17:00.368 we just our organizations 0:17:00.447 --> 0:17:02.249 as business and the world is changing 0:17:02.964 --> 0:17:04.565 But that's most important thing. 0:17:04.644 --> 0:17:07.185 When you surround yourself by right team, 0:17:08.386 --> 0:17:12.388 it allows you to trust that 0:17:12.509 --> 0:17:14.851 people will bring to your 0:17:14.990 --> 0:17:17.271 attention things that I 0:17:17.311 --> 0:17:18.893 need to know and I can give 0:17:18.952 --> 0:17:20.653 them guidance and coaching. 0:17:21.453 --> 0:17:23.154 And also I think it's really 0:17:23.275 --> 0:17:24.915 helpful as we manage this 0:17:25.036 --> 0:17:26.856 multi-dimensional world to 0:17:27.017 --> 0:17:28.317 ask as many questions 0:17:28.478 --> 0:17:30.058 rather than try to give an answer. 0:17:31.106 --> 0:17:33.268 Um, that's really an important, 0:17:33.327 --> 0:17:34.528 I think most empowering 0:17:34.988 --> 0:17:36.628 personal development tool for me. 0:17:37.068 --> 0:17:38.348 When I ask questions, 0:17:38.648 --> 0:17:41.230 I learn a lot about the business. 0:17:41.930 --> 0:17:45.230 The ideas come to light and 0:17:45.290 --> 0:17:47.112 it allows me to know how to 0:17:47.192 --> 0:17:49.412 coach and how to make decisions best way. 0:17:50.232 --> 0:17:51.452 But you mentioned something 0:17:51.492 --> 0:17:53.012 for the young people, uh, 0:17:53.173 --> 0:17:54.413 who are just starting to 0:17:54.453 --> 0:17:55.294 get the career in 0:17:55.374 --> 0:17:56.693 hospitality and they all 0:17:56.733 --> 0:17:58.575 will start in very different roles. 0:17:59.093 --> 0:18:00.114 whether they're engineers 0:18:00.193 --> 0:18:02.076 and officers or waiters or 0:18:02.615 --> 0:18:03.396 beverage runners. 0:18:03.876 --> 0:18:04.817 I think it's really 0:18:04.877 --> 0:18:10.962 important that as people start the career, 0:18:11.042 --> 0:18:12.624 no matter what functional areas, 0:18:12.644 --> 0:18:13.805 that they exercise the 0:18:13.884 --> 0:18:16.768 curiosity about overall business, 0:18:16.827 --> 0:18:19.349 like what's happening from numbers, 0:18:19.430 --> 0:18:22.732 from reading earning statements, 0:18:22.752 --> 0:18:24.173 to asking questions, 0:18:24.233 --> 0:18:25.454 to talking to guests. 0:18:26.221 --> 0:18:27.803 and really step outside of 0:18:27.883 --> 0:18:28.943 the area and see what 0:18:29.263 --> 0:18:30.365 brands they are working on, 0:18:30.425 --> 0:18:31.166 what business. 0:18:31.686 --> 0:18:33.509 I find that people who 0:18:34.069 --> 0:18:36.271 showcase that curiosity are 0:18:36.291 --> 0:18:38.595 the ones who go further 0:18:38.755 --> 0:18:39.855 along in life and the 0:18:39.915 --> 0:18:41.557 career and make biggest impact. 0:18:44.041 --> 0:18:44.602 Yeah. 0:18:44.721 --> 0:18:45.502 And that's it. 0:18:45.603 --> 0:18:46.703 It's surrounding yourself 0:18:46.743 --> 0:18:47.663 with good people that you 0:18:47.703 --> 0:18:50.846 trust and you move forward together. 0:18:51.146 --> 0:18:54.368 And there's no secret to that. 0:18:54.568 --> 0:18:55.470 People ask me all the time, 0:18:55.509 --> 0:18:56.130 what's the secret? 0:18:56.611 --> 0:18:58.432 And I say, I put my pants on, 0:18:58.471 --> 0:18:59.373 I walk outside the house 0:18:59.633 --> 0:19:00.894 and I surround myself with good people. 0:19:01.753 --> 0:19:03.596 And, and, and that's, you know, and that's, 0:19:03.776 --> 0:19:04.576 and that's it. 0:19:04.655 --> 0:19:06.238 And everything else, you know, 0:19:06.357 --> 0:19:07.298 you'll figure out if you 0:19:07.317 --> 0:19:08.078 have a great team, 0:19:08.118 --> 0:19:08.739 how many times you've been 0:19:08.759 --> 0:19:10.299 in a situation when you're 0:19:11.141 --> 0:19:12.481 in a meeting or on board, whatever, 0:19:12.882 --> 0:19:13.643 and you don't know, 0:19:13.883 --> 0:19:16.125 you have no idea what the answer is. 0:19:16.345 --> 0:19:17.726 And maybe people think you should, 0:19:18.486 --> 0:19:19.988 but you have people around 0:19:20.028 --> 0:19:21.489 you that are going to get the answer. 0:19:22.009 --> 0:19:23.410 And that to me is the 0:19:23.450 --> 0:19:24.090 difference between 0:19:24.151 --> 0:19:25.932 mediocrity and being exceptional. 0:19:25.951 --> 0:19:26.051 Yeah. 0:19:26.731 --> 0:19:29.473 Hey, every day, it happens every day, 0:19:29.534 --> 0:19:30.255 you don't know. 0:19:30.434 --> 0:19:32.836 And the day when I think I 0:19:32.916 --> 0:19:34.137 know everything is a day, 0:19:34.198 --> 0:19:35.858 I think we stop growing, right? 0:19:35.999 --> 0:19:38.500 So I really think hopefully 0:19:38.540 --> 0:19:40.041 we all every day find 0:19:40.102 --> 0:19:41.083 something we don't know. 0:19:41.343 --> 0:19:42.044 So before we, 0:19:42.084 --> 0:19:43.545 we have some pictures we want to show, 0:19:43.704 --> 0:19:44.404 but before we do that, 0:19:44.865 --> 0:19:47.428 who was your biggest inspiration and why? 0:19:50.369 --> 0:19:51.391 That is such a tough 0:19:51.431 --> 0:19:52.971 question because I'm very fortunate. 0:19:53.071 --> 0:19:54.212 I met many people who 0:19:54.272 --> 0:19:55.634 inspired me in the role models. 0:19:56.308 --> 0:19:58.690 I would say my grandmother, 0:19:58.710 --> 0:20:00.731 I'm from Uzbekistan. 0:20:01.692 --> 0:20:05.034 Um, she only had seven years of education, 0:20:06.075 --> 0:20:06.934 uh, in school. 0:20:07.214 --> 0:20:09.977 And she, um, had a very, 0:20:10.037 --> 0:20:11.897 very difficult life. 0:20:11.938 --> 0:20:13.439 She migrated, uh, 0:20:13.659 --> 0:20:15.059 from Russia to Uzbekistan 0:20:15.079 --> 0:20:16.059 during World War II. 0:20:16.161 --> 0:20:18.182 And she was only 16 years 0:20:18.362 --> 0:20:20.462 old from in a very difficult, um, 0:20:21.163 --> 0:20:22.564 circumstances and went 0:20:22.604 --> 0:20:25.486 through everything from hunger to, um, 0:20:26.242 --> 0:20:29.284 just, you know, building the family, 0:20:29.364 --> 0:20:30.624 building her own house. 0:20:30.743 --> 0:20:33.484 But what I found in my 0:20:33.585 --> 0:20:37.026 memories of her is she, 0:20:37.625 --> 0:20:38.906 our house was always, 0:20:39.027 --> 0:20:41.948 we lived in such a modest environment, 0:20:42.448 --> 0:20:44.468 but our house was always full of people. 0:20:45.128 --> 0:20:47.888 She always found time to 0:20:47.969 --> 0:20:49.849 listen and to make time. 0:20:49.950 --> 0:20:51.210 And I would come home from 0:20:51.289 --> 0:20:52.891 school and it was always bubbling 0:20:53.859 --> 0:20:55.980 some conversations and noise 0:20:56.121 --> 0:20:57.422 and it just created that 0:20:57.481 --> 0:20:58.281 happy environment. 0:20:58.362 --> 0:20:59.563 But every evening, 0:21:00.323 --> 0:21:02.243 every evening I would go to 0:21:02.304 --> 0:21:04.744 bed and she was the most 0:21:04.924 --> 0:21:07.166 well read person I knew. 0:21:07.727 --> 0:21:10.067 And every evening she would, 0:21:10.228 --> 0:21:12.108 I would lie down next to her and say, 0:21:12.288 --> 0:21:13.970 grandma, what book are you reading? 0:21:14.679 --> 0:21:16.039 And she would be telling me 0:21:16.099 --> 0:21:17.922 these incredible stories 0:21:18.061 --> 0:21:19.844 about incredible places in 0:21:19.884 --> 0:21:22.726 the world from the books she was reading. 0:21:22.807 --> 0:21:24.448 And I remember that probably 0:21:24.468 --> 0:21:26.230 instilled that sense of 0:21:26.329 --> 0:21:27.631 curiosity that the world 0:21:27.671 --> 0:21:28.652 doesn't end there. 0:21:28.832 --> 0:21:30.653 And it always reminds me 0:21:30.753 --> 0:21:32.055 like the person had, 0:21:32.535 --> 0:21:33.997 it's not about years of 0:21:34.076 --> 0:21:35.738 education she had or degrees, 0:21:35.817 --> 0:21:36.419 but it's about 0:21:37.039 --> 0:21:38.962 mindset of curiosity and 0:21:39.022 --> 0:21:41.207 recognizing the world as a bigger place. 0:21:41.307 --> 0:21:43.670 I think probably she really 0:21:43.730 --> 0:21:46.034 had a most foundational 0:21:46.094 --> 0:21:48.017 impact from very early age on me. 0:21:48.325 --> 0:21:48.565 Wow. 0:21:49.365 --> 0:21:50.207 You got me a little emotional. 0:21:50.227 --> 0:21:51.067 That's beautiful. 0:21:51.247 --> 0:21:52.808 And it's deep, right? 0:21:52.848 --> 0:21:54.390 That's deeply rooted in you. 0:21:54.710 --> 0:21:58.032 And you bring that wherever you go. 0:21:58.133 --> 0:22:01.695 And being mindful and 0:22:01.736 --> 0:22:03.656 mindset really are another 0:22:03.997 --> 0:22:05.419 key words that you learned early on. 0:22:05.439 --> 0:22:06.519 So thank you for sharing that. 0:22:06.558 --> 0:22:07.539 I'm glad I asked that question. 0:22:07.559 --> 0:22:08.421 That was a beautiful answer. 0:22:08.921 --> 0:22:11.104 Yeah, two beautiful answers. 0:22:11.403 --> 0:22:13.586 Take us to beautiful ships 0:22:13.886 --> 0:22:14.847 that you have over there. 0:22:14.867 --> 0:22:15.888 I wanted to say beautiful boats, 0:22:15.929 --> 0:22:16.549 but it's not a sub, 0:22:16.589 --> 0:22:17.471 although you do have two 0:22:17.510 --> 0:22:20.595 subs on this one. 0:22:20.615 --> 0:22:24.358 So I'm going to pull up your ocean vessel, 0:22:24.598 --> 0:22:25.680 the Odyssey. 0:22:25.759 --> 0:22:27.082 We're going to take a look at a little – 0:22:27.142 --> 0:22:28.083 pictures and use that as a 0:22:28.123 --> 0:22:29.042 framework to talk about 0:22:29.303 --> 0:22:31.005 luxury and design and what people want, 0:22:31.244 --> 0:22:33.546 including an incredible 0:22:33.926 --> 0:22:35.708 partnership that you folks 0:22:35.807 --> put this up. 0:22:43.913 --> 0:22:45.713 And by saying without further ado, 0:22:45.733 --> 0:22:46.315 it means there's something 0:22:46.335 --> 0:22:47.395 to do because I still had to get it up. verandas and so there is an 0:23:43.711 --> 0:23:45.472 incredible amount of space 0:23:45.772 --> 0:23:47.913 and elements of design and 0:23:48.012 --> 0:23:50.292 luxury that create that 0:23:50.433 --> 0:23:52.913 sense of elegance and very 0:23:53.415 --> 0:23:54.136 At the same time, 0:23:54.217 --> 0:23:55.557 welcoming and warm atmosphere. 0:23:55.857 --> 0:23:57.199 This is one of my favorites. 0:23:57.278 --> 0:23:58.579 This is so cool. 0:23:59.059 --> 0:24:01.261 That is very much of like 0:24:01.321 --> 0:24:03.344 what you would do on your private yacht. 0:24:03.403 --> 0:24:05.585 And that's why when guests 0:24:05.664 --> 0:24:06.726 go on portalships, 0:24:06.746 --> 0:24:08.067 they do say this is like, 0:24:08.106 --> 0:24:08.968 I don't need a yacht. 0:24:09.087 --> 0:24:09.827 That's my yacht. 0:24:10.429 --> 0:24:11.148 Right. 0:24:11.450 --> 0:24:12.390 You know what that is? 0:24:13.431 --> 0:24:14.251 What we call it? 0:24:14.932 --> 0:24:15.752 Oh, no idea. 0:24:16.292 --> 0:24:16.553 Okay. 0:24:16.573 --> 0:24:18.055 We call it Marina Day. 0:24:18.075 --> 0:24:19.015 Okay. 0:24:19.154 --> 0:24:21.017 When we find this beautiful... 0:24:21.644 --> 0:24:23.384 location hopefully like in 0:24:23.424 --> 0:24:24.865 this picture it's usually 0:24:24.885 --> 0:24:27.407 in our warm waters and we 0:24:27.468 --> 0:24:29.250 open up our marina and we 0:24:29.289 --> 0:24:31.111 deploy all our toys like 0:24:31.230 --> 0:24:33.853 banana balls kayaks and 0:24:34.374 --> 0:24:36.154 people just have a fun of 0:24:36.255 --> 0:24:38.195 their lifetime right so 0:24:38.215 --> 0:24:39.057 you're not doing this in 0:24:39.096 --> 0:24:40.357 the arctic just to be just 0:24:40.377 --> 0:24:42.058 to be clear hold on hold on 0:24:42.118 --> 0:24:43.220 hold on well he's not 0:24:43.240 --> 0:24:45.442 kayaking we have a lot of 0:24:46.384 --> 0:24:47.625 toys in Arctic. 0:24:47.666 --> 0:24:48.346 I bet you do. 0:24:48.487 --> 0:24:50.849 Ajax and Zodiacs. 0:24:51.190 --> 0:24:51.790 No way. 0:24:52.912 --> 0:24:53.573 Of course, 0:24:53.894 --> 0:24:56.115 in addition to two submarines 0:24:56.155 --> 0:24:57.136 that we talked about and 0:24:58.299 --> 0:25:00.601 We are doing Glenn polar plunge, 0:25:00.741 --> 0:25:02.542 both in Arctic and in Antarctica. 0:25:02.702 --> 0:25:04.243 I've done one in Greenland. 0:25:04.384 --> 0:25:06.565 It's quite a life-changing experience. 0:25:06.684 --> 0:25:08.405 I did a polar plunge once, but for me, 0:25:08.465 --> 0:25:10.086 the water's like 83 degrees. 0:25:10.186 --> 0:25:11.667 It was still pretty chilly. 0:25:12.348 --> 0:25:13.249 I can't imagine doing that. 0:25:13.548 --> 0:25:15.891 So look at this beautiful space in here. 0:25:16.090 --> 0:25:18.291 And what I really like about this, Anthony, 0:25:18.551 --> 0:25:19.113 is that... 0:25:20.032 --> 0:25:21.134 it's getting it down to the 0:25:21.173 --> 0:25:22.595 real personal level, right? 0:25:22.714 --> 0:25:24.355 From the way that the ship is built, 0:25:24.476 --> 0:25:25.876 from the way that the staff 0:25:25.936 --> 0:25:28.078 interacts with you on that ship. 0:25:28.538 --> 0:25:29.960 And I think people are 0:25:29.980 --> 0:25:32.561 craving more intimate experiences now. 0:25:32.602 --> 0:25:33.241 How do you see it? 0:25:34.643 --> 0:25:35.364 Absolutely. 0:25:35.403 --> 0:25:38.005 Well, at least our travelers, 0:25:38.125 --> 0:25:39.586 our guests are very, 0:25:40.967 --> 0:25:42.147 in their regular lives, 0:25:42.167 --> 0:25:44.849 they're very accomplished, busy people. 0:25:44.930 --> 0:25:46.770 So when they go to travel 0:25:46.810 --> 0:25:47.832 and explore the world, 0:25:48.345 --> 0:25:49.644 they really want to have 0:25:49.684 --> 0:25:52.346 that intimacy space where 0:25:52.385 --> 0:25:55.487 they can create this lasting connections, 0:25:55.567 --> 0:25:57.127 both with places they visit 0:25:58.107 --> 0:26:00.028 and with fellow passengers 0:26:00.088 --> 0:26:02.369 without feeling overwhelmed and crowded. 0:26:02.410 --> 0:26:03.529 So it is a very important 0:26:03.549 --> 0:26:05.290 part of our experiences, 0:26:05.750 --> 0:26:07.070 making you feel like you 0:26:07.172 --> 0:26:09.412 really are in the ship and 0:26:09.491 --> 0:26:10.031 it's your ship. 0:26:10.833 --> 0:26:12.353 That picture, if you go back, 0:26:12.393 --> 0:26:13.334 Seabourn Square. 0:26:13.354 --> 0:26:14.273 I absolutely will. 0:26:14.294 --> 0:26:16.075 Give me one moment, please. 0:26:16.734 --> 0:26:17.055 This one? 0:26:17.691 --> 0:26:19.192 Yeah, well, one before. 0:26:19.271 --> 0:26:21.713 Seabourn Square is our one of the most, 0:26:21.913 --> 0:26:22.374 this one, 0:26:22.554 --> 0:26:24.895 one of the most popular spaces on ship. 0:26:25.076 --> 0:26:26.236 Every ship has that. 0:26:26.737 --> 0:26:27.817 And that's almost like a 0:26:27.876 --> 0:26:29.458 little marketplace, right? 0:26:29.498 --> 0:26:30.459 You come there. 0:26:30.479 --> 0:26:30.979 Yeah, 0:26:31.078 --> 0:26:32.079 those croissants are looking pretty 0:26:32.099 --> 0:26:33.280 good right about now. 0:26:33.921 --> 0:26:36.423 Well, we also make our own gelato. 0:26:37.628 --> 0:26:39.029 It's a homemade gelato there. 0:26:39.130 --> 0:26:39.769 And by the way, 0:26:39.890 --> 0:26:42.711 our chefs train for three weeks in Italy, 0:26:42.751 --> 0:26:43.231 Bologna, 0:26:43.271 --> 0:26:44.732 before they are allowed to make 0:26:44.792 --> 0:26:46.153 gelato on board our ships. 0:26:46.193 --> 0:26:46.493 Wow. 0:26:47.414 --> 0:26:49.596 And we roast our own coffee. 0:26:49.635 --> 0:26:51.237 So people come and you can 0:26:51.297 --> 0:26:52.758 see this whole process and 0:26:52.857 --> 0:26:54.959 have a cup of coffee, have your gelato, 0:26:55.338 --> 0:26:56.839 have a conversation with 0:26:56.900 --> 0:26:58.881 our crew member or future 0:26:58.941 --> 0:27:00.201 cruise consultant or just 0:27:00.261 --> 0:27:01.823 read the book and relax the view. 0:27:02.250 --> 0:27:04.013 So that's one of my favorite 0:27:04.074 --> 0:27:04.954 places as well, 0:27:05.016 --> 0:27:06.258 but it's a really cool 0:27:06.317 --> 0:27:07.520 place to hang out when you 0:27:07.560 --> 0:27:09.064 have some time. 0:27:10.473 --> 0:27:10.773 Awesome. 0:27:11.654 --> 0:27:12.075 So yeah, 0:27:12.115 --> 0:27:13.256 this suite's absolutely beautiful. 0:27:13.276 --> 0:27:15.656 And I love the private verandas and all. 0:27:16.176 --> 0:27:17.938 And now being that I haven't 0:27:18.118 --> 0:27:21.000 been on one of these ships before, 0:27:21.319 --> 0:27:22.121 I feel like the private 0:27:22.161 --> 0:27:24.961 verandas is kind of like 0:27:25.021 --> 0:27:27.263 more of the space where you'd hang out on, 0:27:27.423 --> 0:27:27.743 you know, 0:27:27.864 --> 0:27:28.944 lounge chairs and stuff like 0:27:28.964 --> 0:27:30.045 that instead of necessarily 0:27:30.085 --> 0:27:32.507 up atop all of you together, right? 0:27:32.807 --> 0:27:33.247 There's probably, 0:27:33.326 --> 0:27:34.607 is there pool space up top? 0:27:34.627 --> 0:27:35.208 How does that? 0:27:35.347 --> 0:27:35.627 Yeah, 0:27:35.688 --> 0:27:37.950 you can go hang out on the pool space 0:27:38.029 --> 0:27:38.150 on a 0:27:39.611 --> 0:27:41.791 But you know, on a private veranda, 0:27:41.852 --> 0:27:42.073 you know, 0:27:42.153 --> 0:27:43.753 one of my favorite things to do 0:27:43.834 --> 0:27:46.516 on board our ships is to do 0:27:46.796 --> 0:27:48.977 an in-suite dining dinner 0:27:49.057 --> 0:27:51.939 when you dine in your private veranda. 0:27:52.359 --> 0:27:55.141 But it's nothing like a room 0:27:55.181 --> 0:27:56.382 service in a hotel. 0:27:56.501 --> 0:27:57.883 We actually will come and 0:27:58.022 --> 0:28:00.305 serve you course by course 0:28:00.724 --> 0:28:03.386 with a waiter at your private veranda. 0:28:03.847 --> 0:28:06.351 privacy of your room or your veranda. 0:28:06.510 --> 0:28:07.952 And you can just enjoy, 0:28:08.032 --> 0:28:09.255 have a dinner for two in 0:28:09.275 --> 0:28:10.896 the most romantic 0:28:11.458 --> 0:28:13.200 atmosphere looking outside 0:28:13.299 --> 0:28:15.643 on the ocean and we'll be 0:28:15.682 --> 0:28:16.564 there to serve you. 0:28:16.984 --> 0:28:17.085 Wow. 0:28:17.761 --> 0:28:18.442 That's pretty cool. 0:28:18.721 --> 0:28:19.442 Yeah, it's pretty incredible. 0:28:19.461 --> 0:28:20.643 Let's take a look again at 0:28:20.663 --> 0:28:23.103 some of this design over here. 0:28:23.163 --> 0:28:25.544 Another beautiful suite for sure. 0:28:26.263 --> 0:28:28.223 That's really beautiful as well. 0:28:28.904 --> 0:28:31.184 And wow, outdoor dining, that are 0:28:45.631 --> 0:28:46.771 looking for something more 0:28:46.811 --> 0:28:48.913 traditional yet more private? 0:28:49.413 --> 0:28:50.835 What kind of trips are they 0:28:50.894 --> is maybe a little bit 0:30:10.571 --> 0:30:12.512 easier to get to rather 0:30:12.532 --> 0:30:14.153 than Antarctica or Arctic. 0:30:14.173 --> 0:30:15.095 Agreed, yeah. 0:30:15.535 --> 0:30:17.036 We have, again, 0:30:18.817 --> 0:30:19.857 Alaska's beautiful 0:30:19.917 --> 0:30:23.901 experience on any travel or ship, 0:30:24.442 --> 0:30:26.063 but what makes Seabourn 0:30:26.143 --> 0:31:02.122 --> 0:31:04.403 small vessel close to a glacier. 0:31:05.144 --> 0:31:05.864 And I will tell you, 0:31:05.884 --> 0:31:08.205 it's probably one of the craziest, 0:31:08.266 --> 0:31:09.946 most insane or emotional 0:31:09.987 --> 0:31:11.146 experiences I've ever felt. 0:31:11.607 --> 0:31:14.710 Because you just feel like 0:31:14.750 --> 0:31:15.750 there's nothing else in the 0:31:15.789 --> 0:31:17.230 world but you and the glacier. 0:31:17.290 --> 0:31:19.512 So, yeah, that is an amazing opportunity. 0:31:19.945 --> 0:31:22.729 Yeah, it's kind of like you skip the beat. 0:31:23.088 --> 0:31:24.810 You know, when I started in this role, 0:31:24.911 --> 0:31:25.371 Anthony, 0:31:25.530 --> 0:31:27.393 I had onboarding with each captain. 0:31:27.452 --> 0:31:29.895 So I was talking to our 0:31:30.036 --> 0:31:32.317 captain on Alaska ship and 0:31:32.357 --> 0:31:34.059 I was asking him about his history. 0:31:34.079 --> 0:31:35.421 And he told me something 0:31:35.461 --> 0:31:36.642 that I really remember. 0:31:36.682 --> 0:31:38.384 He said, you know, 0:31:38.403 --> 0:31:41.846 I sailed in Alaska before for 0:31:43.116 --> 0:31:44.137 quite a few years. 0:31:44.317 --> 0:31:44.857 And he said, 0:31:44.958 --> 0:31:47.019 I realized I have never seen 0:31:47.180 --> 0:31:49.361 Alaska until I started 0:31:49.441 --> 0:31:50.662 sailing on Seabourn. 0:31:51.201 --> 0:31:52.583 And that really, 0:31:52.643 --> 0:31:55.525 really made me stop in my tracks. 0:31:55.625 --> 0:31:56.326 Like, wow, 0:31:56.405 --> 0:31:58.247 because it's because of that 0:31:58.807 --> 0:32:00.628 absolutely life, 0:32:01.209 --> 0:32:03.069 like you're in a harbor 0:32:03.130 --> 0:32:04.530 glacier and really on a 0:32:04.590 --> 0:32:05.932 kayaks right there. 0:32:05.991 --> 0:32:07.313 I mean, that's life-changing. 0:32:07.333 --> 0:32:09.694 10 years ago or 15 years ago, 0:32:11.868 --> 0:32:12.348 And now, 0:32:12.548 --> 0:32:14.470 what's the difference in the guest? 0:32:14.569 --> 0:32:15.930 Is there different expectations? 0:32:16.410 --> 0:32:17.529 What's the most significant 0:32:17.569 --> 0:32:18.390 change that you've seen 0:32:18.510 --> 0:32:19.510 outside of technology? 0:32:20.411 --> 0:32:21.671 I was going to say, well, of course, 0:32:21.730 --> 0:32:23.291 technology is a big change. 0:32:23.352 --> 0:32:26.412 People expect now to stay 0:32:26.451 --> 0:32:27.673 connected or disconnected 0:32:27.732 --> 0:32:29.012 based on their choice. 0:32:29.813 --> 0:32:31.712 I think there are some similarities. 0:32:32.513 --> 0:32:34.534 And the core of our guests 0:32:34.713 --> 0:32:36.354 is the same because I think 0:32:36.433 --> 0:32:38.134 our guests really look for 0:32:38.174 --> 0:32:38.575 this connection. 0:32:39.685 --> 0:32:40.326 genuine, 0:32:40.487 --> 0:32:42.409 authentic connection with places 0:32:42.449 --> 0:32:43.108 they visit. 0:32:43.750 --> 0:32:45.211 It's not just about travel 0:32:45.270 --> 0:32:46.971 or checking the bucket list for them. 0:32:47.073 --> 0:32:48.453 It's really building that 0:32:51.215 --> 0:32:53.877 unique kind of experience 0:32:53.938 --> 0:32:55.859 with both destinations they visit, 0:32:56.019 --> 0:32:57.461 also with fellow travelers 0:32:57.540 --> 0:32:58.541 and with crew members. 0:32:58.981 --> 0:33:00.703 So that stayed the same. 0:33:01.805 --> 0:33:01.924 And 0:33:02.814 --> 0:33:06.215 expectations of choice stayed the same. 0:33:06.316 --> 0:33:07.676 They want to have a choice 0:33:07.896 --> 0:33:09.377 in how they want to travel, 0:33:09.478 --> 0:33:10.479 what they want to eat, 0:33:10.999 --> 0:33:13.361 who they want to dine with and on and on. 0:33:15.241 --> 0:33:18.784 I think that what we see 0:33:18.964 --> 0:33:21.105 more and more in general in 0:33:21.185 --> 0:33:23.086 society and certainly among 0:33:23.207 --> 0:33:25.288 ultra luxury guests is that 0:33:25.449 --> 0:33:26.910 notion of experience 0:33:27.009 --> 0:33:29.310 matters more than things. 0:33:29.770 --> 0:33:29.951 Yes. 0:33:30.932 --> 0:33:34.534 People want to have that experience. 0:33:34.614 --> 0:33:37.894 Therefore, that's why Seabourn, again, 0:33:37.934 --> 0:33:40.734 Seabourn service is a secret sauce. 0:33:40.875 --> 0:33:42.316 Why people choose Seabourn 0:33:42.355 --> 0:33:44.036 versus other great brands 0:33:44.655 --> 0:33:47.096 is because that how we make 0:33:47.156 --> 0:33:51.498 them feel matters even more than 0:33:52.259 --> 0:33:53.959 the beautiful sweets we 0:33:54.098 --> 0:33:55.880 offer or what they eat. 0:33:56.460 --> 0:33:57.779 And even in a dining and a 0:33:57.839 --> 0:33:58.881 culinary experience, 0:33:58.941 --> 0:34:00.201 we talked about that with 0:34:00.260 --> 0:34:01.560 my team just recently as 0:34:01.661 --> 0:34:02.682 we're launching Solace, 0:34:02.741 --> 0:34:04.382 our new fine dining 0:34:04.461 --> 0:34:05.622 Mediterranean restaurant, 0:34:06.201 --> 0:34:10.463 is not just about getting people a fine, 0:34:10.923 --> 0:34:13.443 wonderful culinary dishes. 0:34:13.664 --> 0:34:15.385 It's all about how they 0:34:15.445 --> 0:34:16.545 experience it again. 0:34:16.925 --> 0:34:18.264 So I think the expectations, 0:34:18.324 --> 0:34:19.905 even when you come to the restaurant, 0:34:20.425 --> 0:34:21.126 is not just, 0:34:21.561 --> 0:34:22.983 what food you eat but how 0:34:23.043 --> 0:34:24.264 you experience the culture 0:34:24.284 --> 0:34:25.324 of that food how do we 0:34:25.384 --> 0:34:26.644 create that mediterranean 0:34:26.724 --> 0:34:28.746 atmosphere on board how we 0:34:28.766 --> 0:34:30.626 have a little ceremony for 0:34:30.726 --> 0:34:32.248 coffee or tea or like 0:34:32.688 --> 0:34:34.048 cocktails that we serve 0:34:34.088 --> 0:34:36.931 that they really have uh 0:34:37.130 --> 0:34:38.851 more than just enjoying the 0:34:38.911 --> 0:34:41.233 food so that I think will 0:34:41.293 --> 0:34:43.494 continue to change uh to 0:34:43.594 --> 0:34:44.934 evolve I think it's not 0:34:44.974 --> 0:34:45.956 really a change it's just 0:34:46.036 --> 0:34:47.016 an evolution in that 0:34:47.056 --> 0:34:49.697 direction that how people feel 0:34:50.570 --> 0:34:52.420 is how they make choices on 0:34:52.682 --> 0:34:53.527 how to vacation. 0:34:54.246 --> 0:34:55.346 Yeah, it certainly was. 0:34:55.385 --> 0:34:57.166 And we saw the same sort of 0:34:57.507 --> 0:34:58.547 phenomenon with like 0:34:58.927 --> 0:35:00.806 African safaris that have 0:35:00.827 --> 0:35:01.806 these incredible tents. 0:35:01.867 --> 0:35:02.688 The whole idea is you have 0:35:02.708 --> 0:35:03.547 the adventure during the 0:35:03.588 --> 0:35:05.307 day and then you could have 0:35:05.347 --> 0:35:06.547 that luxury at night. 0:35:06.568 --> 0:35:07.789 And you're really being able 0:35:07.869 --> 0:35:11.789 to mix that with moving more about that. 0:35:11.849 --> 0:35:12.969 And that's where your 0:35:13.150 --> 0:35:14.769 on-ship expedition team is 0:35:14.849 --> 0:35:16.949 pretty cool as well because 0:35:16.969 --> 0:35:17.969 they really help train you 0:35:17.989 --> 0:35:19.411 and get you to that adventure part. 0:35:19.871 --> 0:35:20.550 But you do it well. 0:35:20.931 --> 0:35:22.773 eating some caviar and sipping champagne. 0:35:22.913 --> 0:35:24.695 That's, uh, that's nice. 0:35:24.934 --> 0:35:25.615 Um, yes. 0:35:25.655 --> 0:35:25.896 Right. 0:35:26.577 --> 0:35:26.996 All right. 0:35:27.016 --> 0:35:28.579 So one thing that's on this 0:35:28.639 --> 0:35:31.322 website that is making me go, Hmm, 0:35:31.802 --> 0:35:32.063 that I'm, 0:35:32.563 --> 0:35:33.965 that I'm very impressed with Anthony. 0:35:34.005 --> 0:35:35.867 It says here, looking on their stuff, 0:35:35.907 --> 0:35:38.329 why sale was, uh, seaborne, uh, 0:35:38.429 --> 0:35:41.713 tipping is neither required nor expected, 0:35:41.733 --> 0:35:41.773 uh, 0:35:42.132 --> 0:35:43.432 That just makes me want to tip more, 0:35:43.914 --> 0:35:44.293 actually. 0:35:44.393 --> 0:35:45.273 How do you feel about that? 0:35:45.813 --> 0:35:47.534 As an American that comes on 0:35:47.614 --> 0:35:48.735 and we're known for tipping, 0:35:49.255 --> 0:35:50.996 do most Americans abide by 0:35:51.036 --> 0:35:52.376 that and just say, okay, 0:35:52.476 --> 0:35:53.175 we're not tipping because 0:35:53.195 --> 0:35:54.056 we don't want to insult anybody? 0:35:54.456 --> 0:35:56.597 Or do you still see people needing to tip? 0:35:58.177 --> 0:35:58.418 Well... 0:35:59.679 --> 0:36:00.719 So first of all, 0:36:00.760 --> 0:36:02.942 we are all inclusive experience, right? 0:36:02.961 --> 0:36:03.161 Yes. 0:36:03.422 --> 0:36:06.324 And real all inclusive. 0:36:07.465 --> 0:36:09.847 And frankly, I truly mean it. 0:36:09.927 --> 0:36:11.809 It's the best luxury value 0:36:11.829 --> 0:36:13.429 proposition to travel. 0:36:13.751 --> 0:36:14.451 Yeah. 0:36:14.471 --> 0:36:15.811 I'll just say for people that don't know, 0:36:15.891 --> 0:36:16.693 most cruise lines you have 0:36:16.713 --> 0:36:17.673 to upgrade if you want to 0:36:17.693 --> 0:36:18.795 go to a specific restaurant. 0:36:19.175 --> 0:36:20.355 you have to pay more to get 0:36:20.434 --> 0:36:21.454 the better view. 0:36:21.514 --> 0:36:22.976 You have to pay, you know, 0:36:22.996 --> 0:36:24.856 you have to pay a fee for this, for that, 0:36:24.916 --> 0:36:26.275 the other, that the other thing, 0:36:26.396 --> 0:36:27.695 you're truly all inclusive. 0:36:28.077 --> 0:36:29.336 You're not reaching into the 0:36:29.396 --> 0:36:31.936 pockets of people every single minute. 0:36:32.356 --> 0:36:32.617 Right. 0:36:32.836 --> 0:36:33.077 Right. 0:36:33.157 --> 0:36:33.836 Including, 0:36:33.896 --> 0:36:35.637 including that you can enjoy 0:36:35.657 --> 0:36:37.097 your fine wines and 0:36:37.217 --> 0:36:40.179 beverages of your choice, you know, 0:36:40.239 --> 0:36:41.239 and it's all included. 0:36:41.858 --> 0:36:44.378 And within that, yes, our, 0:36:44.639 --> 0:36:46.000 we don't expect tipping. 0:36:46.579 --> 0:36:48.000 We don't ask for tipping. 0:36:48.079 --> 0:36:48.500 We don't, 0:36:49.052 --> 0:36:52.554 monitor if our guest tip, 0:36:52.653 --> 0:36:53.994 it is a personal choice. 0:36:54.534 --> 0:36:58.655 We have our, we do have a crew welfare, 0:36:58.715 --> 0:37:00.096 we call it Splash Fund, 0:37:00.135 --> 0:37:02.896 where if the guests want to 0:37:02.956 --> 0:37:03.717 leave something, 0:37:04.416 --> 0:37:05.436 we allow them this 0:37:05.496 --> 0:37:06.737 opportunity if they ask, 0:37:06.836 --> 0:37:08.237 and we use this money for 0:37:08.277 --> 0:37:10.097 the benefit of crew and welfare. 0:37:11.617 --> 0:37:15.099 So yes, some guest tip, but it's really, 0:37:15.139 --> 0:37:16.480 we are not managing that 0:37:16.679 --> 0:37:17.900 and we are not expecting. 0:37:18.971 --> 0:37:19.150 Yeah. 0:37:19.490 --> 0:37:20.431 I just love the whole idea 0:37:20.452 --> 0:37:21.532 of really everything being 0:37:21.612 --> 0:37:22.693 truly included. 0:37:22.713 --> 0:37:23.434 And that's why I love the 0:37:23.494 --> 0:37:24.695 all-inclusive idea. 0:37:25.054 --> 0:37:26.797 So I'm not sitting there 0:37:26.876 --> 0:37:28.016 making a decision if I'm 0:37:28.036 --> 0:37:29.418 going to buy this drink now 0:37:29.518 --> 0:37:30.318 or do that other thing. 0:37:30.358 --> 0:37:32.099 I could just simply be. 0:37:32.601 --> 0:37:33.880 And when I'm on vacation, 0:37:34.681 --> 0:37:35.503 as somebody who that's 0:37:35.663 --> 0:37:36.722 going to be spending money, 0:37:36.744 --> 0:37:39.005 I just want to like be – 0:37:39.005 --> 0:37:41.365 freed from the daily life 0:37:41.626 --> 0:37:42.846 that I have and that's why 0:37:42.885 --> 0:37:43.806 you're able to create such 0:37:43.846 --> 0:37:45.226 experiences glenn when I 0:37:45.266 --> 0:37:46.367 when I open my own cruise 0:37:46.407 --> 0:37:47.246 ship I'm going to come up 0:37:47.266 --> 0:37:49.367 with your tagline simply be 0:37:50.248 --> 0:37:52.068 yeah it's a great tagline 0:37:52.208 --> 0:37:53.349 it's a great tagline right 0:37:53.369 --> 0:37:54.568 because don't we need thank 0:37:54.588 --> 0:37:55.909 you I appreciate that uh 0:37:55.949 --> 0:37:57.250 but we really need a lot 0:37:57.469 --> 0:37:59.230 more of that sort of thing 0:37:59.650 --> 0:38:01.010 and to tell you I i was on 0:38:01.190 --> 0:38:02.351 I was fascinated with this 0:38:02.371 --> 0:38:03.291 I was looking for cruises 0:38:03.331 --> 0:38:04.891 looking for cruises and uh 0:38:05.853 --> 0:38:06.715 Hard to find one that was 0:38:06.775 --> 0:38:07.594 available because 0:38:07.614 --> 0:38:08.795 apparently you're so popular. 0:38:08.916 --> 0:38:10.856 But once I did, looking at the pricing, 0:38:10.876 --> 0:38:14.298 it's pretty reasonable when 0:38:14.338 --> 0:38:16.579 compared to a land-based 0:38:16.940 --> 0:38:18.820 resort that's not even at 0:38:18.860 --> 0:38:21.222 the luxury level you're talking about. 0:38:21.302 --> 0:38:22.242 So I'd highly encourage 0:38:22.282 --> 0:38:24.023 everybody to take one of these cruises. 0:38:24.403 --> 0:38:26.405 Oh, I am so glad you said that. 0:38:26.445 --> 0:38:28.588 So I didn't have to say that. 0:38:28.628 --> 0:38:29.527 That's genuine. 0:38:30.349 --> 0:38:32.230 I really believe, by the way, 0:38:32.371 --> 0:38:33.572 cruising in general, 0:38:33.672 --> 0:38:35.373 that is not just about Seabourn. 0:38:35.472 --> 0:38:37.253 Cruising in general is one 0:38:37.295 --> 0:38:39.195 of the best value proposition. 0:38:39.976 --> 0:38:41.577 No matter what cruise line is, 0:38:41.657 --> 0:38:42.838 cruise line of your choice 0:38:43.539 --> 0:38:45.001 in terms of travel experience. 0:38:45.420 --> 0:38:46.601 And I certainly think when
