Flashback to AAHOACON 2018: No Vacancy Gets Official

As I look back on 10 years of No Vacancy and more than 1,000 episodes, I’m sharing a few seminal moments that mattered.

This episode comes from AAHOACON 2018 in San Antonio, which marked a real shift for No Vacancy.

That year, Rachel Humphrey, then COO of AAHOA, made No Vacancy the official podcast of the conference. For the first time, a podcast had a formal role at a major industry event. We had a plexiglass booth, multiple cameras feeding live video, and a real footprint on the show floor. The technology didn’t fully cooperate yet, but that’s what happens when you push into new territory early.

The episode I’m highlighting here features Bruce Ford, SVP at Lodging Econometrics. Bruce and I had already worked together on a series of on-stage conference sessions we informally called The Glenn and Bruce Show.

This interview marked the first time we carried that dynamic into this format, and it clearly pointed toward where the podcast was headed. I’m rerunning this episode as part of a broader look back while No Vacancy approaches 10 years as a company and passes 1,000 episodes, focusing on moments that show the progression rather than the polish.
