DENVER – March 21, 2024 – On March 8, 2024, Sage Hospitality Group celebrated the company’s 40th anniversary. Since it was founded four decades ago, Sage Hospitality Group has grown into one of the country’s most prominent, privately held hospitality management, investment and development companies.

Founded March 8, 1984, by college classmates Walter Isenberg and Zack Neumeyer – then in their mid-20s with big ideas and deep love for the hospitality business – Sage has built and maintained a reputation as a genuinely purpose-led organization and a valued and trusted partner. The company successfully rounded out its 40th year in business with nearly $1.1 billion in system-wide revenues in 2023 – a record for the organization – and the continued growth of its portfolio, particularly in the lifestyle and independent space. Sage also continued its long history of rooting each hotel and restaurant in community citizenship and providing growth and development opportunities to its more than 6,000 associates through scholarships and other learning opportunities.

“Forty years ago, we never could have imagined being here now nor can we fathom the future that still exists for Sage. We have endured tough times, celebrated great successes, and loved every minute of it. Even after all this time, two things remain constant: our entrepreneurial spirit and our passion for enriching lives, one experience at a time,” said Walter Isenberg, co-founder and CEO of Sage Hospitality Group. “Zack and I are incredibly proud of what we’ve built and the impact that we have had on the hospitality industry over the years. We look forward to continuing to create meaningful places and delivering exceptional experiences for our guests, associates, partners and communities for many more years.”

LEADING WITH PURPOSE

As we embarked on the company’s 40th year in business and in celebration of its mission, Sage committed to giving $400,000 in charitable donations and that company associates would volunteer 40,000 hours in local communities. The company far exceeded the charitable giving goal: Across the entire organization, Sage donated more than $675,000 through Dollars for Dreams, Hungry to Help, the Sage Scholarship Fund, and other direct donations to deserving organizations in communities where Sage’s business operate in the 12 months from March 2023 to March 2024. While the final information on hours volunteered in the last year is still being aggregated, our associates have and will continue to selflessly volunteer to help those in need, directly enriching the lives of others.

LOOKING AHEAD – ALL IN ON LIFESTYLE

What started as a company with a very simple focus of securing third-party management contracts for hotels of all shapes and sizes, Sage committed a decade ago to grow the company in a very specific direction, focusing on not only managing – but developing and investing in – lifestyle assets in major urban and select resort markets. In 2022, Sage gave shape to this strategy by strengthening the company’s vision, setting out to become the nation’s favorite lifestyle hospitality company. The strategy continues to come to fruition in a meaningful way: the company’s portfolio now reflects an evolution to one focused on those sectors with a heavy emphasis on independent hotels and restaurants.

In addition to being involved in numerous major mixed-use developments in key markets across the U.S., Sage is expanding its owned hotel brands like Catbird and The Maven into new markets and is pursuing development and management opportunities for lifestyle properties in key urban and resort markets around the U.S.

In its 40th year, Sage also unveiled its first Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, and laid out how the organization plans to expand its ESG efforts in the future. A testament to the company’s unwavering dedication to sustainability, ethical business practices, and responsible corporate citizenship, the report outlines Sage’s strategy, goals, and achievements to date, marking a pivotal step in aligning the company’s operations with the highest standards of corporate responsibility and social impact.
