National award recognizes the celebration of history at the Inn at the Presidio and Lodge at the Presidio
(SAN FRANCISCO — October 16, 2026) — Terry Haney, Managing Director of Presidio Lodging, has received the 2026 Historic Hotels of America® Historic Hotelier of the Year Award, recognizing his leadership of the Inn at the Presidio and Lodge at the Presidio in San Francisco’s national park setting.
Presented as part of the Historic Hotels Annual Awards of Excellence, the award honors an individual who demonstrates the highest contribution to furthering the celebration of history at historic hotels. Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for recognizing and celebrating the nation’s finest historic hotels.
Haney was honored at the awards ceremony and gala on October 15 at the Williamsburg Lodge, Autograph Collection, in Williamsburg, Virginia. More than 240 hospitality leaders and guests attended the celebration. Across all award categories, the awards committee considered more than 700 nominations.
At Presidio Lodging, Haney’s work connects contemporary hospitality with the distinctive character of two historic properties: the Lodge at the Presidio, housed in a former military barracks dating to 1894, and the Inn at the Presidio, located in the 1903 Pershing Hall. Together, the hotels offer guests an opportunity to experience San Francisco through the architecture, landscapes, and stories of the Presidio.
The recognition highlights the role of historic hoteliers in making the past meaningful to today’s travelers. At the Inn and Lodge, historic character is part of the guest experience, complemented by modern comforts and access to the Presidio’s trails, cultural destinations and Golden Gate views.
“It’s an extraordinary honor to receive this recognition from Historic Hotels of America. The Inn and Lodge belong to a place with remarkable stories, and our team has the privilege of helping guests discover them every day. This award reflects their care, enthusiasm and commitment to making the Presidio’s history a welcoming, living experience.”
In announcing this year’s recipients, Historic Hotels of America emphasized the importance of stewardship in preserving historic places while delivering exceptional hospitality. Haney’s award places Presidio Lodging among a national community of hotels and hospitality professionals recognized for keeping those places and their stories vibrant for future generations.
